Blood Games (1990)

Action/Thriller     Not Rated

Plot

An all female baseball team travels the country in a bus playing for hire. I guess it is sort of a novelty. They are hired to play against a bunch of drunken asshole rednecks in honor of it being the head drunken asshole redneck's son's birthday. Well, it turns out that the ladies not only look good in their uniforms but they can actually play and they pretty much stomp the locals.
They all feel pretty good about their victory until the head redneck decides to take it personally. It doesn't help matters when the team's coach shoves his head into a toilet then they accidently kill the guy's son. I mean he was shooting at them at the time but you know how testy those former mercenary killer drunken rednecks can be. He swears revenge and places a $1000 bounty on each dead girl the locals bring in. You can probably guess where this is headed. The girls are soon fighting for their lives against a small army of drunkard inbreds.

Acting

With the exception of and appearance of George "Buck" Flowers, the cast is made up of mostly competent though certainly unspectacular and unknown actors. Which outside of clearly not knowing how to play baseball, is fine for what was needed of this movie.

Action/Gore

There is lots of gunshots, and baseball bat beating, nothing really violent or bloody though. There are a bunch of car chases, and fight scenes, and a chase through the backwoods, with some good fight scene choreography and stunt work.

Sex/Nudity

Lots of breast and butt during a post-game shower scene, some more backside while a girl distracts a redneck, and some breasts during an attempted rape.

Final Thoughts

This is some very good B-Movie trash. The situations and dialogue are very unrealistic, but not taken fully seriously, but the movie is full of good, not over-the-top action sequences, and is very steadily paced, never allowing the viewer to get bored. Artistically there is almost no value to this, but the entertainment value is very high. A true hidden gem for b-movie fans, i certainly suggest seeking it out.
