Dead at the Box Office (2005)

Horror/Comedy     Not Rated

Plot

After finding a mysterious film reel hidden in their ceiling, the well-meaning staff of a struggling movie theater assume that the film is an old B-movie preview trailer and play it before a midnight screening of the timeless George A. Romero masterpiece, 'Night of the Living Dead'. When the film is revealed to be a long-dead Nazi scientist's mind control experiment, their audience of horror movie fanatics is transformed into a mob of mindless zombies with a fierce hunger for the flesh of the living! Ten survivors struggle to stay alive as the cinema is overrun by shambling hordes of the undead, while outside, ruthless government agents plot to halt the spread of the mysterious outbreak by any means necessary. Sometimes creepy, sometimes campy, 'Dead at the Box Office' pays tribute to the low budget horror films of the '70s and '80s. Combining the elements of these "B" classics with a fresh twist on the zombie origin, 'Dead at the Box Office' is a tongue-in-cheek salute to horror fans everywhere!

Acting

Not very good, but considering that it starts off with an intro by Lloyd Kauffman, its better than can be expected.

Gore

Some zombies are impaled, and people are eaten.

Sex/Nudity

None

Final Thoughts

When i see a movie start of with an absolutely atrocious intro from Lloyd Kauffman, or anything Troma related, i automatically expect the worse, and while not quite the worst, this movie certainly lives up to the Troma expectations. It is essential an homage/satire of Night of the Living Dead, complete with the racist man in power, and the heroic minority. It is however an awful tribute to that movie, as there is not creativity here, very wooden acting, and bad directing. There are however a few decent gore scenes, and one decent enough supporting actress. Although it is bad, and starts with Kauffman, it is not really much like a Troma movie, as for the most part, the movie takes itself seriously until a few gags towards the end, Still much like just about all Troma movies outside of the first Toxic Avenger, you should avoids this.
