Eamon Hardiman --- May 2010

This months second interview subject, is Eamon Haridman. Eamon had previously directed the horror comedy's "Catholic Ghoulgirls" and "Vampire Whores from Outer Space". He is here today to promote his latest horror comedy "Porkchop".

Thank You for participating in our interview! Firstly why don’t you tell us about yourself!

I'm a micro-cinema filmmaker working in the business for ten years, off and on. Most of my features are shot in my hometown of Charleston, WV, although I've lived and worked in both NYC and L.A. on a variety of different things. We mostly do horror/comedy.

How and why did you get into the business?

To meet girls, mostly. I tried a band but I have no musical talent and movies seemed easy. Little did I know....

What are your aspirations?

My dream would be to actually start a full working film studio in West Virginia. There's nothing like that here and the state sorely needs to capitalize on its resources and build on them. You can't even rent a camera here. There's barely any film equipment. I think there are only one or two places in town that have grip kits. I want to provide all of that so everyone can make professional films without having to mail-order stuff from NYC.

Who are your idols, and/or influences?

Sam Raimi and John Landis are my primary influences, although I don't think any of it's evident in my work. Probably also Kevin Smith and David Lynch.

Tell us about your movie, What Should we expect from it?Any comparisons to similar movies?

Porkchop is a film done in the camp style of 1980s horror films, going so far as to be set in the 1980s. Expect a lot of laughs, some surprisingly brutal kills, some nudity, and a robot. It's probably closest to The Burning and Just Before Dawn with a lot of comedy on top. We did more than a few homages to those films. If you know your slasher films from that era, you'll find a lot to like in Porkchop.

What where the best, worst, and hardest parts of making this movie?

Best part was definitely getting to work with so many talented actors. I never knew this but professional actors show up and actually KNOW their lines. It's insane.

Worst part? Rain. Lots of rain.

Hardest part was probably shooting about 15 pages of dialogue in a gravel parking lot of an old diner that is apparently the greatest tourist destination in the history of western civilization. Or at least it was on that day. Trucks and four-wheelers all day kicking up gravel. Modern day vehicles driving into our shots. Horrible.

Did you enjoy making it?

I loved every minute of it. There's no better rush on the planet than making a movie.

Any unique/interesting storys about making the movie?

I was nearly killed by a lawndart. Rob (Porkchop) was throwing darts over my shoulder while i filmed and there was some sticky blood on his hand. The dart stuck to it for a second and came rocketing out of his hand at a slightly skewed angle at maximum force. And he's a big guy. So this dart whizzes past my head and i actually feel the wind from it part my hair. Another inch or so I'd have been dead or very very blind.

So far all of your films are largely comedy based, do you plan on making any more serious horror films, or  will you be sticking with the comedy?

Yes, actually after our next film "Zombie Babies" we'll be going with some more serious horror and actually tackling some other genres as well.

“Porkchop” is basically a spoof of 80’s slasher movies, can you tell us some films from that specific genre you loved and hated?

I love them all. Even if they're terrible, it almost makes them better.

Can you tell us what separates your film from the multitude of other camp horror comedys?

Original kills, comedy that is actually funny, great actors, a robot sex scene, and no CG blood which everyone seems to use these days. It takes five minutes to squirt some blood. It's just plain lazy to do that in After Effects.

Any upcoming or past  projects you think may interest of readers?

Zombie Babies, our next film, shoots in July. We're aiming to make it the most offensive film ever made and it's going to be a blast. It'll definitely bring to mind the Puppet Master films and Demonic Toys, things of that nature, but we're taking it a step further. That's definitely one to look forward to. Anyone who wants in on the film can also do so through our Kickstarter page where we're giving away t-shirts, producer credits, copies of the film, special thanks credits, all kinds of great rewards. The address for that is http://kck.st/9niw6a

What are some of your favorite Favorite Horror, Sci-Fi or Action movies (your own excluded)?

I'm actually a big fan of IDLE HANDS and Dracula AD 1972 when it comes to horror. Sci-fi probably Ice Pirates. That's a good one. And action movies, anything with Roddy Piper in it.

Thanks again for participating in our interview, just one more question. Where can readers go to purchase "Porkchop" or your other films?

Right now they can head to http://www.porkchopmovie.com and purchase a copy of Porkchop on DVD. We did a very limited run. The other films are available from Maxim Media/Brain Damage films and can be purchased through Amazon or your favorite online retailer
