Eden Lake (2008)
Horror/Thriller Rated R
Plot
Nursery teacher Jenny and her boyfriend Steve, escape for a romantic weekend away. Steve, planning to propose, has found an idyllic setting: a remote lake enclosed by woodlands and seemingly deserted. The couple's peace is shattered when a gang of obnoxious kids encircles their campsite. Reveling in provoking the adults, the gang steals the couple's belongings and vandalizes their car leaving them completely stranded. When Steve confronts them, tempers flare and he suffers a shocking and violent attack. Fleeing for help, Jenny is subject to a brutal and relentless game of cat-and-mouse as she desperately tries to evade her young pursuers and find her way out of the woods.
Acting
Kelly Reilly is very good with her role as the sweet innocent hero, and Michael Fassbender is good as her love interest. The group of villains are fine, but not as strong as the two leads.
Gore
Mostly off-screen violence but there is still a decent amount of blood and gore.
Sex/Nudity
None
Final Thoughts
This movie has receive quite a good deal of praise from both horror and mainstream critics, and while its certainly a good film, with a great lead actress, to me it was essentially a British knock off of Last House on the Left. It's a very similar plot, minus the rape, but its far more tame, and the group of villains isn't nearly as frightening, menacing or interesting as the one in Last House. While i'd encourage you to see either the original or remake of Last House, this is still a good watch.
