Horror     Rated R

Plot

Teenage fun begets terror when two young couples spend the night inside a creepy carnival funhouse, where even the most harmless of objects can take on a distorted and sinister glare. Things really heat up when the kids play witness to a brutal murder at the hands of a disfigured killer who traps them inside with no way out and forces them to relive their waking nightmare.

Acting

Average-below average all around

Gore

A few kill scenes involving an axe and a sword, and an electricultion, but none are show in graphic detail.

Sex/Nudity

The lead girl get topless in the opening shower scene (which is an omage to both "Psycho and Halloween), and again very quickly during a makeout session. Also an older lady/madame briefly has her top ripped off just before being killed. There are also some strippers in the carnival who are not "technically" nude but are seen wearing just pasties.

Final Thoughts

This movie is directed by Tobe Hooper, who to me is the most overrated director of the genre, Poltergeist was a great movie, and hes had some other good ones, but he incredibly inconsistent and does as many bad or awful movies as hed does decent to good ones. The "funhouse" element of this movie was very underused to me, as that setting should easily allow for some good comedic sight gags, and jump scenes, but there are none in this movie. Oscar winning make up effects man Rich Baker is also completely wasted, as there is little here that requires his services.I had been looking forward to this movie for sometime and in the end was a good deal disappointent in it, it neither works as a straight horror/slasher, nor is it cheesy or over the top enough to work in the so-bad its good way.
