Open House (2010)
Thriller/Horror Rated R
Plot
A couple on the verge of a nasty divorce attempt to sell their empty love nest and move on with their lives, separately. After a successful open house they are horrified to discover, days later, that a potential buyer didn't leave their home. While Alice is being held captive in the basement, the unannounced house guest moves in upstairs. She senses her capture is being kept a rebellious secret. She knows her way only way out if she can only get out alive.
Acting
The fairly strong cast is headlined by Rachel Blanchard, Tricia Helfner, and Brian Geraghty as the 3 leads. But also features small roles from True Blood stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, both of whom are quickly disposed of and clearly appear as a favor to the director (Andrew Paquin, Anna's older brother, making his directorial debut).
Gore
Multiple bloody stabbings, and a nail to the eye.
Sex/Nudity
There is a skinless sex scene between Moyer and Helfner, and Helfner is oft shown bikini clad.
Final Thoughts
Mediocre crazy neighbor thriller, that may be confused for a haunted house movie for those looking to buy the film. It moves a bit too slow for its own good, and while the characters are fairly well written, the heroine, played by Rachel Blanchard, is a bit underused, as there's a bit too much focus on the villains and not enough shown of teh girl we are supposed to root for. Still though a solid effort and it was worth sitting through, as long as you don't expect to be blown away.
