Pig Hunt (2008)

Horror     Rated R

Plot

When John takes his San Francisco friends to his deceased uncle's remote ranch to hunt wild pigs, it seems like a typical guys weekend with guns - despite the presence of John's sexy girlfriend Brooks. But as John and his crew trek deeper into the forest, they begin tracking the awful truth about his uncle's demise and the legend of The Ripper -- a murderous three-thousand-pound black boar! Their pursuit leads them through fields of marijuana and into the muddy landscape of Big Wallow, involving high-powered weaponry, the violent and unpredictable Tibbs Brothers, massacred emus, a machete-toting Hippie Stranger, vengeful rednecks, and throat-slitting Cult Girls who grow dope by day and worship a Giant Killer Pig by night. By the time the pig hunt is done, no one is innocent - or unscathed.

Acting

Pretty much everyone overacts quite badly(which may be an attempt at camp humor), but they are not helped by the poorly written over-stereotypical characters.

Gore

Decapitated animals and humans, leg broken through the skin, exaggerated gun shot wounds, and a few giant pig attacks.

Sex/Nudity

Clothed sex, man butt, and several random topless hippies at a commune bathing site.

Final Thoughts

Hunters, at least those of the recreational variety, rarely make for good sympathetic heroes, and that's probably the main problem here, as there's is maybe 2 characters to actaully give a crap about and even those 2 are borderline. The other problem is that it is actually a little slow to begin with with lots of dialogue from bad characters trekking through the woods. However once the plot gets to the redneck justice in the back woods and especially when the titular pig shows eat, its becomes a very enjoyable experience, with good special effects  (especially the very goood looking pig, though it only has a few minutes of screen time) and stunt work. Fortunately the less than stellar beginning is worth sitting through to get to the intriguing final act, otherwise this would be a huge disappointment.
