Pinocchio's Revenge (1996)
Horror Rated R
Plot
Defense attorney Jennifer Garrick acquires a Pinocchio puppet from a condemned serial killer. Her pre-teen daughter, Zoe, mistakes the puppet as a birthday present and grows really attached to her new doll friend. Suddenly, accidents begin to happen to those who cross Zoe. Zoe claims it's her Pinocchio doll. Zoe's therapist thinks otherwise. Soon Pinocchio and Zoe are conversing about his bad behavior. Pinnochio promises he'll behave if Zoe will cut his strings. Zoe complies, and the mysterious murders begin...
Acting
Stars Rosalind Allen and Brittany Alyse Smith as the mother and daughter lead characters, and neither is any good, strictly made for TV type stuff. Also stars Verne Troyer as the doll, Ron Canada, and Candace McKenzie as the maid/nanny, who I thought gave the best performance of the cast, despite be limited to 3 total IMDB credits.
Gore
The doll stabs a knife through a women's hand
Sex/Nudity
Allen is seen topless, very briefly, during an incredibly and boring lame sex scene, and the nanny is seen fully nude while in and out of the shower, as Pinocchio watches.
Final Thougths
While there are few good acting performances, and really no gore to speak of, I found this to be a very entertaining movie. The special effects are actually pretty good, as it appears the doll may actually Verne in a very convincing costume. It never gets to over-the-top, and although there are some funny moments, never drifts into the comedy area. Altogether it makes for a good mindless time wasters, which is currently available FREE via Fear Net On Demand until May 11th, 2010.
