Piranha 3D (2010)
Horror/Sci-Fi/Action/Comedy Rated R
Plot
Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; a new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the areas new razor-toothed residents.
Acting
Shue and McQueen both are very effective as the lead heroes, and Szohr is a good damsel in distress. Also features model Kelly Brook, and porn star Riley Steele, who essential play theatrical version of themselves and Ving Rhames and Dina Meyer in small roles. The highly publicized roles of Christopher Lloyd and Richard Dreyfuss are little more than cameos as Dreyfuss has just one scene, and Lloyd only 2. Also features a cameo from Eli Roth
Gore
As promised the gore is very abundant, and blood flows start to finish, several half eaten bodies/skeleton, and floating body parts, and enough blood to fill a small lake.
Sex/Nudity
An overlong underwater swimming/make out scene between Brooke and Steele, a topless parachuting scene by that other porn star, and a bunch of random topless party goers.
Final Thoughts
Aja certainly delivered on the gore and nudity he has been promising, however unlike his other films, the story here is very generic and many of the characters are annoying and make so many dumb and illogical decisions that it starts to get annoying. Cliches abound. However despite the cliches and illogical characters and sequences it is still entertaining and worth going to see. However, with this being my first experience viewing a movie in 3D, i didn't think it added a whole lot to the movie other than a few quick scenes. Still go out and see it, but the 1978 movie (also remade in 1995) which this is supposedly a remake of (the storys are only vaguely similar) is a better movie.
