Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959)

Sci-Fi/Horror     Not Rated

Plot

"Can your heart stand the shocking facts about Graverobbers from Outer Space?" That's the question on the lips of the narrator of this tale about flying saucers, zombies and cardboard tombstones. A pair of aliens, angered by the "stupid minds" of planet Earth, set up shop in a California cemetery. Their plan: to animate an army of the dead to march on the capitals of the world. (The fact that they have only managed to resurrect three zombies to date has not discouraged them.) An intrepid airline pilot living near the cemetery must rescue his wife from this low-budget terror. "Can you prove it *didn't* happen?"

Acting

Ed Wood actually manages to get some decent actors, Bela Lugosi is featured here and is obviously the biggest sell, I also thought Tor Johnson, while not being an overly talented  "traditional" actor, was likable and charismatic. Regardless of what Elvira claims she did completely rip off Vampira.

Gore

A few killings, none violent.

Sex/Nudity

Vampira shows a lot of cleavage, but that''s as far as it goes

Final Thoughts

Although i like the story  it can be hard to follow, as there is very little story progression, as there are a lot of individual scenes that are just kind of thrown together. Also the effect and dialogue are often bad, with very notable stock footage. However while there is almost not artistic value to the movie, there is certainly an entertainment value to it, even if it's simply to see just how bad it can get. This was my first experience in the world of Ed Wood, and I completely understand his reputation now. If your someone like me, who likes to torture themselves with bad movies, then this is a must see, if not, pretend you never read this review or heard of this movie.
