"Polar Storm" is directed by Paul Ziller, who by my count has now directed 10 SyFy (or Sci-Fi) original movie, and usual his are better than most, however that is not the case here. It's just your run of the mill made-for-tv disaster flick with solid acting, but poor special effects, and generic story. It's also surprisingly light on action and is really more story based than expected. Still not a complete waste of time, but there are much better disaster movies out there, even much better from SyFy.
