Puppet Master (1989)
Horror Rated R
Plot
Puppet maker Andre Toulon shoots himself at the Bodega Bay Inn before his Secret of Life can be stolen by the Nazis. 50 years later in 1989 the secret is discovered by Neil Gallagher. Soon he sends messages to his psychic friends Alex Whitaker, Dana Hadley, Frank Forrester and Carissa Stamford who arrive to find his wife Megan who claims Neil to be dead. As the night goes by, the murderous puppets are awakend and unleased on the group, only for them to discover that evil comes in all sizes.
Acting
Pretty good all the way around, not one really notable, but all appeared to be professional actors, which is more than should be expected in a movie of this subject matter.
Gore
A guys shoots himself in the mouth, and dolls kill people in very ways. The doll kills however, where often off-screen and just showed some of the aftermath.
Sex/Nudity
Brief breasts during a sexual assault flashback, some brief breast in the bath tub, and women wears a see through nighties that shows butt during a sex scene.
Final Thoughts
I have always been a fan of Full Moon Features, and generally like most all of there efforts, however despite this being there signature film, this is the first time I have ever seen it (or any of the Puppet Master movies), and found it a bit disappointing. While still entertaining I think it was in part hurt by the fact that I have seen so many of there similarly plotted films that have been released in recent years, so the idea didn't seem quite as fresh as it could have. Should you decide to watch this i definitely recommend watching this before any recent Full Moon offerings. However as with most Full Moon movies, you do at least get solid acting and a story, that while not be original to them, is not a commonly seen one in the mainstream. Still worth seeing, and I think other will enjoy it more than I.
