The Severed Inn (2009)
Horror/Comedy Not Rated
Plot
The SEVERED Inn follows the grim tale of Uncle Bob,a jolly Innkeeper who has a passion for the gruesome and the macabre. His guests are treated to a memorable, and often eternal, stay at his secluded bed and breakfast, where peace and quiet are the selling points. Uncle Bob enlists the help of his two bungling sons, in the quest to add to his grisly collection that is kept safely preserved in the basement. While his guests sleep soundly in their rooms upstairs, Uncle Bob and his boys crank up the terror in one of the most revolting workshops ever recorded on film.
Acting
Very rough to start, but it gets better as it goes along, Kat Bartlett in particular was a standout as the heroine and Paul Braccioforte as the main villain.
Gore
Some severed limbs, and some human remains ground into sausages.
Sex/Nudity
A girl is seen topless while she changing in the bathroom, and fully nude shortly there after while taking a bath. A women is later seen topless as she is getting ready for a shower and is kidnapped.
Final Thoughts
"The Severed Inn" is based off one of the segments in Legion Films anthology film "Mind Morgue" while it would not have been the segment i would have picked to make a full length feature, it still told a decent, while flawed and cliched story. It lacks on gore, but does delivers some decent acting, good low budget effects and shows that the makers have some good ideas, and with experience could certainly make some very good movies in the future. I still would recommend this as some people may enjoy the comic aspects, especially those of Shawn C. Phillips, than i did. While is would recommend both this and "Mind Morgue", I would not watch them back to back as I did, because "The Collector" segment from "Mind Morgue" is recreating, scene-for-scene, and combined with other story lines to create this movie. This movie in the end is left open for a sequel, which i hope will happen, as there are 3-4 characters in this movie, who are featured throughout the movie, but we never learn there fates, and it was kind of annoying. For some added insight into the making of this movie, please see my interview with one of its stars, actress Victoria Saunders.
