Shark Attack 2 (2001)

Horror     Rated R

Plot

The mutant sharks from Dr. Craven's experiments in "Shark Attack 1" are back, this time choosing Cape Town, South Africa as their hunting ground. Two sisters, Amy and Samantha, while diving near a wreck in the reef are attacked by a shark; Samantha survives. One week later, Dr. Nick Harris and his assistant get the shark and install it as a new attraction at Water World - a Sea World rip-off. When the shark escapes, Nick and Samantha go to hunt it and discover that there are 6 mutant Great Whites living in a cave near the beach, and the Water World's surfing competition might be the next victim! Now they team up with Roy - a Discovery Channel shark hunter - to kill the beasts and save Cape Town.

Acting

Very generic and uninspired, everyone delivers there lines well enough, but there's nothing behind them, they show no emotion, and are very monotone.

Gore

-Sharks are stabbed, and there's blood in the water from off-screen shark attacks.

Sex/Nudity

A random topless women on the beach, and a very tame, lame, and skinless sex scene.

Final Thoughts

The first "Shark Attack" movie was not exactly high art, and these one is even lower than that. Towards the beginning there is some bad writing with very unnatural human interaction, and the acting actually may drag it down a bit (although i did like the two sidekicks a bit), includes an annoying montage seen used to fast track the romance sub plot, which is a horrible romance plot with no chemistry what so ever. . It also appears that the menu graphics and newsreel graphics where done using Microsoft PowerPoint, there where that awful. While not a benchmark for quality film making, it was still fairly entertaining and about on the same level as the first one in that department. Skippable movie, but watchable and may be enjoyed by creature feature junkies.
