Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Horror Not Rated
Plot
A young boy watches his parents killed by a thief in a Santa suit. He spends his youth in an orphanage, staying quietly to his self, but his mind is further bent by an ironhanded Mother Superior. He finally gets a job at a local store, where he finally snaps when he is required to wear a Santa suit, and goes on a killing spree that leads him slowly back to the orphanage.
Acting
It's pretty stiff, but it's a low budget 80's slasher, so would you expect anything different?
Gore
There's some pretty good gore scenes including slit throats, sliced abdomens, severed heads, and antler impalement. The gore however is not what made this film so controversial upon its release.
Sex/Nudity
A few woman are stripped topless and killed, and some women are topless while making out, and being chased by the killer. one of these ladies is Linnea Quigley.
Final Thoughts
This was a very controversial back in the 80's when it was released, however while it does feature ample amounts of gore and nudity, the controversy was caused by it featuring a killer who dresses as Santa Claus. The movie itself however is nothing real special, its your average cheap and cheesy entry into the era slasher craze, but doesn't offer anything new other then the Santa Claus aspect, which these days is no longer something new.
