Spirit Camp (2009)
Horror/Comedy Not Rated
Plot
When a street smart "goth girl" is forced to attend cheerleader camp as part of her rehabilitation from a juvenile correction facility, she clashes with the "popular girls," and finds herself embroiled in a bitter rivalry with the bitchy ringleader Rachel (Julin). But when members of the spirit squad start turning up dead, the girls must put aside their differences and struggle to survive the murderous rage of a crazed psycho-killer lurking among them!
Acting
Certainly over-the-top but it was intended that way, but I did find the lead character to be fairly likable, and the gas attendant,Only notable cast member is Bradon Smith, who has had small roles in many movies, including No Country for Old Men, Jeepers Creepers (and upcoming JC3), Robo Cop 2, The Alamo, etc.. Here he is also good in supporting role as the dimwitted local Sheriff.
Gore
Exposed guts, knifes to the head, an axe to the shoudler.
Sex/Nudity
A women gets topless while trying to get a gay guy to have sex with her, and the lead girl is seen topless while changing into her cheerleader uniform. Also fully clothed oral sex and masturbation scenes.
Final Thoughts
While certainly not a inventive or brilliantly written slasher movie, he is entertaining throughout its run time. It lacks on gore, but makes up for it with some funny, but not too over the top sequences. Also pay homage to Halloween (and possibly other old school slashers)with a character and location names after characters from that movie. If you're looking for a Friday the 13th like gory slasher this isn't that, but it is entertaining and blends aspects of both Horror and Comedy well.
