The Willies (1990)

Horror/Comedy     Rated PG-13

Plot

Two brothers camping with their cousin try to frighten each other by telling stories. There are two main narrations: one involves strange happenings at an elementary school; the other, a teenage boy with a peculiar interest.

Acting

Features Sean Astin as one of the narrating characters, and Clu Gulager, as well as some other semi-recognizable actors, and cameos from Kirk Cameron and Tracey Gold. Overall the acting was fair, but there was really only one character (played by Michael Bower) who ever really had to character as significant amount of screen time, so there was not many opportunities to stand out.

Gore

Severed neck, dog blown up in microwave and some aftermath shots.

Sex/Nudity

None

Final Thoughts

A bit of an odd anthology film, which plays much like a goosebumps style kiddy flick with just enough gore thrown in to make it not quite kid friendly. Also the very brief pre-credits starter stories ended up being more entertaining then the elongated stories that make up the bulk of the screen time. The problem with the longer stories is that they where a bit too long, and the pay off didn't warrant the over long set-up. Certainly would have benefited by cut each story down a bit and adding in at least one more story to the mix. To it's credit though, the story's where a bit unique and at least didn't just rely on old campfire stories. Still tho a largely skippable movie, and you may as well just go and watch a few episodes of "Goosebumps".
