Virtuality (2009)
Sci-Fi/Thriller/Drama Not Rated
Plot
Twelve extremely talented men and women have been chosen to be part of the Phaeton mission, a 10-year trek to explore a distant planetary system. In order to endure the stress of being confined to their high-tech vessel, the crew passes the time using advanced virtual reality modules that allow them to take on various identities. But as the ship approaches a critical phase of their journey, a deadly flaw is discovered in the virtual system, forcing them to question if someone onboard might be a killer.
Acting
Stars Clea DuVall, Jimmi Simpson, Joy Bryant, and Sienna Guillory among others. All characters are very well and believably acted, with Jimmi Simpson (as usual) standing out from the rest.
Action/Gore
Largely dialogue based movie, so there is not much at all.
Sex/Nudity
Brief clothed sex.
Final Thoughts
Actually his is 2 episodes of a TV pilot, that never got picked up, and was then edited together to form a feature length movie. It is directed by the very talented Peter Berg, and certainly would have been much more effective as a TV series than it is in it's current movie form. All the characters are fairly well developed, however are not particularly interesting as there are two many characters to get to know in the short time. It also feels very much unfinished with a very abrupt ending, probably because it never was finished. Definitely has the start to what could have been a decent TV show, but is only slightly above average as a movie, and could actually could have been a better movie had they been able to go back and add in another 30 minutes (which would have brought the run time up to about 2 hours) of footage to fill in some gaps.
